Five Steps to a Moroccan-Inspired Living Room

Quite often we'r   e attracted to a theme that we'd like to incorporate into our interiors without going overboard. For example, how might you incorporate a Moroccan theme into your home? Here are five ideas.

Chairs

Carved wood is quintessential Moroccan. The two chairs we used are not specifically from Morocco, but are a nod to their traditional patterns. When you choose pieces that work with the design but are not obvious, we find they help to keep rooms from feeling themed.

Sofa

For the sofa, we recommend investing in a great foundation piece that can transition into other styles. This is something you want to spend some money on as you'll have it for years to come.

Coffee Table

The stone table we used has very simple clean lines. The stone top and cast iron base could really work in any space, and the nesting tables keep it functional and versatile. These are great features to look for in a foundation piece like this that you can build on.

Cushions and Rug

For more color and pattern we added cushions that have traditional Moroccan patterns. Don't be afraid to use cushions that are all different, as long as they have common or complementary patterns or color. Layering rugs is also a fantastic way to bring in color and give dimension to the room.

Wallpaper and Art

This is where you want to start adding interest to your walls. For us, Morocco is all about pattern and texture, so it only seems natural to add it to the walls. For impact use bold wallpaper but keep it tone-on-tone so it's not overbearing. To bring in a pop of color use art that not only brings in color but makes use of traditional patterns.

Lighting

We say this all the time: layer your lighting! Use a simple but oversized table lamp with a hand crafted Moroccan lantern to add that real Moroccan feeling to the room. What we love about the light cast from the lantern is that it mimics the patterns you see in the wall tiles.
